We advise that you consider bringing your child for their first dental appointment as soon as they start getting their first baby (deciduous) teeth.
It is also a good opportunity for you as a parent or guardian to obtain some tailor-made advice regarding oral hygiene and diet to ensure your child’s teeth stay healthy.

In subsequent visits, we may apply fluoride varnish to the back teeth. Studies have shown this reduces the chance of dental decay in these harder-to-reach areas.
Occasionally we will consider fissure sealants in their first adult molars which come through around the age of 6 to 7 years. This is a permanent flowable sealant of the grooves of the back teeth to reduce food collection in these areas, reducing the chance of decay and making the teeth easier to clean. This is painless and requires no local anaesthetic. It is a non-invasive preventative treatment.
We advise children to attend every 6 months for check-ups as there can be so many changes as your child grows. We can identify developmental problems in teeth and treat decay if it arises promptly. Occasionally, we will adjust the regularity of check-ups to 3 monthly intervals if a child is deemed to be at a higher risk of decay. We can also pick up when braces are required to be able to refer them to the orthodontist for treatment at the right time.
